How to install foroom as an app on mobile and desktop
In short
You can use foroom like an app on iPhone, Android, and desktop — no app store required. After you sign in to your community, add foroom to your home screen or dock and open rooms, posts, and messages in full screen.
The install prompt appears automatically once you are signed in. That way you get back to your community faster without hunting for a browser tab every time.
🔍 Browser or installed app?
foroom works as usual in the browser. When you install foroom on your device, you launch your community from an icon — no address bar, more room for feed and discussions.
There is no app store download. Android and Chrome often use a system install dialog. On iPhone, iPad, and Safari on Mac, you use Share and Add to Home Screen or Add to Dock.
⚙️ Install foroom on your phone
Sign in to your community and open foroom in your phone browser. The banner and profile entry only appear for signed-in members — not on the marketing landing page.
1. Banner at the bottom of the screen
At the bottom you will see a green banner with Install app. One tap starts the next step for your device: the system dialog on Android or the in-app guide on iPhone and iPad.
If you dismiss the banner, Install app stays in your profile menu.

2. On your phone, from your profile menu
On smartphone only: Tap your profile picture in the top right. In the menu, choose Install app — same flow as the banner (system dialog on Android, instructions in Safari).
On desktop, Install app is not in the profile menu. It sits in the top bar next to messages and notifications — see the desktop section below.

📱 iPhone or Android?
The entry point is the same: banner or profile menu → Install app. What happens next differs — foroom detects your device automatically.
💡 Note
If you see neither dialog nor guide, check that you are signed in and that your browser allows installs. Private tabs often block this.
iPhone and iPad: Apple does not allow an install dialog in the browser — including Chrome and Firefox on iOS. You see the Add to Home Screen steps inside foroom.
Android and Chrome: When the browser supports web apps, a system dialog asks you to confirm. Then the icon appears on your home screen.

⚙️ Install foroom on desktop
On laptop or desktop, Install app appears in the top bar — desktop only, not in the phone profile menu. In Chrome or Edge, the button often opens the system dialog.
In Safari on Mac (macOS Sonoma 14+), foroom shows Add to Dock — same pattern as on iPhone, for the dock.

📱 Tab or app icon?
In a browser tab you often share the address bar with other sites. The installed app opens foroom directly — handy when you visit the same community every day.
Push notifications for direct messages work in supported browsers when you enable them in settings. Installing the app is separate from that.
👀 What foroom feels like as an app
After installation you open rooms and the feed as before — just without browser chrome. You stay in the same community with the same permissions as before.
