How roles and permissions work in your community
In short
In foroom there are three roles: owner, admin, and member. The role decides who can manage your community, create rooms, or publish posts.
As owner or admin you can assign admin rights and set, for each room, who can post there.
👥 The three roles at a glance
Owner
The owner owns the community and has access to every setting. Some settings, such as certain community settings, are available only to this role.
Admin
Admins help run the community. They can create rooms, review join requests, and assign admin rights.
Member
Members can read, comment, and – depending on the room setting – publish their own posts. They do not see admin tools or community settings.
🛡️ Assign or revoke admin rights
If you want help running your community, you can give a member admin rights.
Open Members and click Assign admin on the person you want. Revoke admin rights resets the role later.
The owner role is the exception: it cannot be assigned or revoked this way.

✍️ Set who can post in a room
Not every room needs to be open for new posts from all members. You can set who can post, separately for each room.
Open the room and go to Edit → Who can post?. You have two options:
All members – ideal for questions, discussion, and exchange
Only owners and admins – ideal for announcements, course modules, or other content you want to manage centrally
Members do not see this setting.

🏠 Create and manage rooms
Only owners and admins can create new rooms. They have Create new room in the rooms rail.
Members do not see this control. That keeps the structure of your community with the people who run it.

👀 How your community looks to members
Members see the rooms, posts, and discussions they can access. Admin options such as creating rooms, assigning admin rights, or certain community settings stay hidden.
That way you can share responsibility without giving every member access to running your community.
